Meet the PRESCHOOL Staff

Our experienced staff live a Christ-centered life and enjoy teaching children about God’s Word. Teachers attend educational workshops and conferences to advance their skills and knowledge, and regularly network with other childcare administrators and educators.

Diane Philipp, Preschool Director & Teacher

Diane brings to our Preschool over 30 years of experience in early childcare and administration. Before joining the staff at Faith, Diane served as Director of The Family Network in Highland Park. This United Way agency provides educational programs for young mothers and their infants and preschool-aged children. She helped develop Child Care Resource and Referral, at a statewide network of childcare services, and directed the YWCA program for Lake and McHenry Counties. Diane also established a Lutheran Church licensed early childhood program where she taught for four years.

Kathy Giegoldt (left) and Joy Tapio (right)

Kathy Giegoldt has been a teacher’s assistant for fourteen years. She is very happy to be here at Faith Lutheran Christian Preschool and excited to meet you and your child as they learn and grow.  Kathy lives in Deerfield with her husband Peter. She has two married daughters, two grandsons and one granddaughter. In her leisure time she enjoys arts and crafts, reading, working in the yard, walking and spending time with her grandchildren.

Joy Tapio has taught preschool and pre-K for the last 16 years.  She believes in letting the child be a child and also that children learn best through play, active involvement, hands-on activities, social interaction, and encouragement.  This approach allows them to develop spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. Joy has a B.S. degree from Northern Michigan University with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in English and holds a current Illinois certification for teaching. She lives in Deerfield with her husband, Tom.  She has five daughters, three sons-in-law, and six grandchildren with one more on the way.  Joy enjoys spending time with her family, two dogs, walking, reading, golf, yoga, traveling, and spending time in Michigan.
